Working for Tutu Tales

Tutu Tales offers budding talent an opportunity to grow in the entertainment industry. We seek out trained and talented young adults to portray our characters or work for the event management team. The ideal candidates have experience in working with children and in entertainment or performing arts. This is a contracted position (Independent Contract, 1099), paid weekly per gig. Performers typically meet at our costuming studio about an hour to 90 minutes before their gig to dress and depart to their parties. They will then return their items after the work day is done. Pay structure to be discussed during interviews.

Requirements to apply:

• Must have open availability on weekends

• Reliable transportation and willing to drive up to 80 miles from our studio location (zip code 32707)

• Exciting and upbeat personality

• Must be at least 18 years of age

• Drama-free and professional state-of-mind!

• Excellent communicators that can quickly respond to team messages (through Facebook or text)

• Very knowledgeable of popular characters such as Disney, Marvel, Nickelodeon, etc.

• Avid social media users who can self-promote on a regular basis

• Able to work independently with minimal supervision

• Fluent in English with no accent

Face Characters

A face character (or character actor) is a performer in a costume with minimal restrictions whose face is exposed and can therefore speak and interact freely with guests. Examples of face characters are princesses, most super heroes, and TV show or movie characters. To portray a face character, you must closely resemble the character, embody their personality, and thoroughly know their story. These roles require extensive studying of the character during your personal time. Face characters typically perform live renditions of their songs, apply makeup, face paint or temporary tattoos, host games, dance, and make speeches. Performers must apply their own makeup and put their hair in wig caps. We require performers to wear special undergarments that must be purchased at the performer's expense. Performers must also assemble their own party supply bag (list of items to be provided). The company will provide all wigs, costumes, accessories, special party props, and music equipment. Most performers will provide their own character shoes and some may use their own personal costumes with management's approval. The training for this role is conducted intermittently during the first three months of a performer's employment during a minimum 90-day probationary period. Trainings are paid and include character development workshops, voice coaching, and other tutorials. The performer must also participate in a required photoshoot and one voluntary event during this probationary period to complete the requirements before advancing into a permanent position with the company.

Mascot Characters

A mascot character is a performer that wears a full-body costume often made with foam and wool that portray cartoon characters. Due to the nature of the costume, performers do not speak and have limited interactions with the guests because of visibility and mobility restrictions. Examples of mascot characters are Mr. and Mrs. Mouse and other popular cartoon characters from TV shows and movies. To portray a mascot character, you must be a highly energetic person with healthy and strong physical stamina that can withstand the heat of these costumes . Mascot characters typically pose for pictures and dance with the guests. The ideal height range for mascotting is 5'2-5'8. We require performers to wear athletic clothing under the costume that must be purchased at the performer's expense. Performers must also assemble their own party supply bag (list of items to be provided). The company will provide costumes, special party props, and music equipment. All staff members at Tutu Tales will be trained and booked to portray a mascot character unless they cannot fit in the costumes or have a serious health issue that would endanger the performer. The training for this role is conducted intermittently during the first three months of a performer's employment during a minimum 90-day probationary period. Trainings are paid and include an animation workshop and other tutorials. The performer must also participate in an required photoshoot and one voluntary event during this probationary period to complete the requirements before advancing into a permanent position with the company.

Mermaid Characters

A mermaid character is a performer that portrays a swimming mermaid by wearing a spandex mermaid tail with a monofin. The performer may portray a character such as The Little Mermaid or may portray an original character. To portray a mermaid character, you must closely resemble the character, embody their personality, and demonstrate a strong swimming ability. These roles require practicing swimming in a mermaid tail during your personal time. Mermaid characters typically host games, swim underwater with guests, perform songs, and pose for pictures. Performers must apply their own makeup and set their hair. Performers must assemble their own party supply bag (list of items to be provided). The company will provide all wigs, costumes, accessories, special party props, and music equipment. The training for this role is conducted during the Spring and Summer season intermittently during the first three months of a performer's employment during a minimum 90-day probationary period. Trainings are paid and include character development workshops, voice coaching, and other tutorials. The performer must also participate in a required photoshoot and one voluntary event during this probationary period to complete the requirements before advancing into a permanent position with the company.

Games Hosts

A games host is a performer in a costume that is created to fit a party theme that does not necessarily require a face character. They may be booked by themselves to entertain at parties or in conjunction with another character (typically a mascot character) to supplement or lead the entertainment. Examples of games hosts are pirates, clowns, and original fairies. To portray a games host, you must have an upbeat personality, demonstrate leadership skills and have prior experience managing groups of children.  Games hosts typically apply makeup, face paint or temporary tattoos, host games, dance, and make speeches. Hosts must apply their own makeup and put their hair in wig caps. We require performers to wear special undergarments that must be purchased at the performer's expense. Performers must also assemble their own party supply bag (list of items to be provided). The company will provide all wigs, costumes, accessories, special party props, and music equipment. Most performers will provide their own character shoes and some may use their own personal costumes with management's approval. Character Attendants

A character attendant is a handler that joins characters at their parties to assist with the overall operation. They may be asked to wear a company t-shirt or may also be asked to wear a themed costume. To work as a character attendant, you must demonstrate managerial qualities such as excellent communication, professionalism and punctuality. These roles require extensive studying of our party packages and itineraries during your personal time. Character attendants typically setup and breakdown party supplies, escort characters throughout the event, take pictures at the party, manage the music, and transport the party teams. Character attendants must look professional and made-up and may be asked to wear a wig. The company will provide all wigs, costumes, accessories, special party props, and music equipment when applicable. The training for this role is conducted intermittently during the first three months of a performer's employment during a minimum 90-day probationary period. Trainings are paid and include event management training and other tutorials. 

Face Painters, Balloon Twisters, Stilt Walkers, Magicians, Clowns

Performers with special skills such as face painting or balloon twisting are considered "artists". Performers with special skills such as stilt walking or magic tricks are considered "special event performers".  Tutu Tales hires these performers to use as our in-house entertainers and the booking will come through Tutu Tales and the performer will represent Tutu Tales at our gigs. Performers must provide or show us samples of their work and must receive managerial approval of their itineraries prior to working for Tutu Tales.
